Public Access Defribrilation (AED)
AED (Automatic External Defibrillators) are devices that send an electrical shock into the heart to stop the chaotic electrical activity that is causing the heart not to beat effectively, and then allows the heart to regain its regular beating action. Medical science has shown that large numbers of adults experience this type heart problem and the sooner the chaotic activity is stopped the better the chance of recovery. Placing these devices in the public assures the rapid access to defibrillation in areas of public gathering to assist the majority of the adult citizens. Recent studies show that some children experience the same problems, so the AEDs are finding their way into the schools. The machine talks to the user and tells them what to do in the order it needs to be completed. They are very easy to use. The people using the device should be trained in CPR to provide this when the shock is completed. The newest research indicated the compressions in CPR are critical and provide the victim with the best chance of survival after the AED is used. CPR and AED use are taught in classes together to provide the user with all the skills needed to assist their neighbor or even a stranger. |
AEDs are located throughout the City of Deerfield Beach. Both privately owned businesses and City Municipal buildings have AEDs located on their premises. Below are just a few of the City Municipal buildings in which AEDs are located:
